Bell Atlantic acquired GTE to form the current Verizon Communication. Verizon upgraded network infrastructure, downsizing to 1/40th of the space.
New York Telephone, along with New England Telephone & Telegraph Company became part of Regional Bell operating company named NYNEX.
NYTel took over the Bell American Telephone company and consolidated the Metropolitan Telephone and Telegraph Company and the Westchester Telephone Company. From there America Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) acquired a controlling interest and not long afterNew York Telephone was an AT&T subsidiary.
THE LOST YEARS
The building frequently shifted hands between owners who did not understand its purpose
NYNEX was acquired by Bell Atlantic and during this time photonics became the backbone of US telecommunications leading to upgrades of underground infrastructure between switches.
In 1956 the property was purchased from Rene Leveille. Drawings for the Westchester Headquarters for the New York Telephone Company followed through 1959, and the building was completed shortly after.
